Process and Fees
COMMISSION PORTRAIT PROCESS
I will discuss with you the purpose of the portrait, where it will hang, the size, medium, and your style and technique preferences. We’ll set up a time for a photo shoot at a place familiar and comfortable for the model—usually at your home or yard. Since no purchase is required, before the photo shoot you’ll be asked to sign a modeling release so that if you are unhappy with the finished painting, I can make it available for public display and sale. While taking photos, I’ll also take notes on color, and lighting. If the model is old enough, I’ll draw some preliminary sketches. While I can use your personal photos as reference, I would need written permission from the copyright holder (whoever took the photos), and would still prefer to meet the model if at all possible in order to observe skin color, mannerisms and expressions. Photographs rarely portray accurate color and sometime can distort features as well. I use them strictly as reference and rely heavily on personal observation, technical knowledge, experience, and intuition.
Minimum turn-around time from the photo shoot to the completed portrait is eight weeks for oil paintings, and three weeks for dry media, unless there is a waiting list. Payment is due upon completion and approval of the portrait. I will give you care instructions for your portrait that will help preserve it at optimal condition. I will also be happy to give framing recommendations. Keep in mind that while you purchase the original painting, I will still hold the copyright. You are welcome to purchase a CD with the photos from the photo shoot as well as a digital photo of the painting (color corrected for photo printing) with a copyright release for non-commercial use. You can contact me for any additional questions.

CUSTOM COMMISSION PAINTING PROCESS
I am happy to discuss any ideas you may have for an original painting for your home or office. I will take into consideration your size, color, style, and subject preferences. Similar to the portrait process, payment is due upon completion and approval of the painting. However, since I sometimes make prints available of custom paintings, you may not copy the image for any reason without permission. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
